The Gospel
The disciples asked, ‘Why do you speak to the people in parables?’ Jesus replied, ‘Because the knowledge of the secrets of the kingdom of heaven has been given to you, but not to them. (Matt 13:10-11)
'The time has come,' he said. 'The kingdom of God is near. Repent and believe the good news!'

What about the Cross?
The Cross is the universal symbol of the Christian faith. It is at the centre of a vast number of worship songs and hymns and is the subject of most written and spontaneous prayers of thanksgiving. Later we will consider the place of the Cross in Paul's letters. It is hardly surprising, therefore, if we assume the Cross is an essential and central part of the Gospel. We might express this Gospel along these lines, borrowing from the famous John 3:16:
Did John's Gospel change after the Cross?
What did the Gospel in Acts focus on?
Peter's Gospel
The Development of the Gospel
The Gospel of the King
We have already looked at the accounts of Paul's Gospel preaching in the Acts, but we get more detailed insight when we look at his letters.
Announcing the Presence of the Kingdom
Repent and Believe the Kingdom has come
Victory over Satan
The Risen King
Conclusion
Jesus Himself is the Good News
He is the “prophet like Moses”
He is the anointed one
He is the Prince of Peace
He is the Eternal King
Jesus is how we know God
Jesus is the victor over our enemy
Jesus can forgive us our sins
Conclusion
The point we must remember is that the Gospel is, by definition, Good News! (At least it is to those who respond in trusting obedience to Jesus.) Good news makes people cheerful and gives them hope.
You have probably heard the expression 'Keep it simple, stupid!' This is good advice for anyone who is trying to explain something. We so easily get drawn into explaining unnecessary detail too soon. We need to start with the big picture and keep the focus on that, only filling in the detail as it becomes necessary.
There is not a single record of Jesus following His teaching with an appeal for people to become disciples. No one is invited to pray a sinner's prayer. In fact when we examine Jesus' approach to 'soul-winning' it is rather shocking.
The Gospels and Acts are united in presenting the Gospel as 'Jesus' Kingdom of freedom and forgiveness is here now for those who believe, because Jesus has bound Satan.' When we listen to the Gospels and to Acts we must conclude that the Gospel cannot be separated from healing and deliverance.
The disciples asked, 'Why do you speak to the people in parables?' Jesus replied, 'Because the knowledge of the secrets of the kingdom of heaven has been given to you, but not to them. (Matt 13:10-11)
